1:1 Workshops and costings

I offer 1:1 tuition in landscape photography for beginners, lasting either half a day or a full day, on a date of your choice.

Format
We will meet up at my home address in Macclesfield, Cheshire, and over a tea/coffee we'll run through the brief for the day, expectations and health and safety advice. We will then spend most of our time together on location, visiting 2 or 3 locations for the half-day workshop and up to 5 locations for the full-day workshop. All locations will be within a few miles of Macclesfield, typically around Macclesfield Forest, the Langley reservoirs and Tegg's Nose. At the end of the session we will return to my home address, and I will edit and print (A3) an image of your choice from the session. Note that for the full-day session, we will break for lunch and critique images taken so far, and any that you have brought with you.

Techniques
I will help you with the following techniques:

- How to set up your camera for landscapes
- How to expose to maximise image quality
- Where to focus to maximise depth of field
- How to use filters to control contrast
- How to use filters for creative effect
- How to shoot panoramics
- How to fine tune your compositions

What to bring with you
Waterproofs and sturdy footwear will be necessary, although most of the locations will be close to the car. Wide angle and longer focal length lenses are ideal for landscape photography, so any combination of lenses that cover 15 to 200mm would be ideal. All of the images you take will be on a tripod - I can provide one if you don’t have one. We will be using filters, so bring along any that you have; I do have spare filters (Lee) and some adaptor rings to cover lenses of different diameters.

Costings
The cost of the session is £75 for half a day (approx. 4.5 hours) or £145 for a full day (approx. 8 hours), payable in advance. This includes:

- All tuition on the day
- All transport from my home to the locations
- For the full-day session only, a light lunch and drink (non-alcoholic)
- An A3 print from the day’s shoot
- A copy of the notes on Basics in Landscape Photography

Terms and Conditions
1. The cost of all workshops, 1:1 tuition and tutorials is to be paid in full at the time of booking.
2. Any cancellation by the client must be made in writing, preferably by email. The date on which written confirmation of cancellation is received will determine whether or not cancellation charges will apply. If any workshop, 1:1 tuition or tutorial is cancelled within 14 days of the scheduled event, then a cancellation charge of 25% of the full cost will be applied. If no notice is given at all and the client does not turn up to the event, then a 100% cancellation charge will apply, ie, no refund will be offered.
3. It is the client’s responsibility to arrive at locations at the arranged time and with appropriate equipment, footwear and clothing. The client needs to be healthy enough to participate in the event. For group events, if the client’s vehicle breaks down or if the client fails to arrive at the agreed location for any reason whatsoever, the event must proceed without them for the benefit of the other paying clients.
4. We reserve the right to alter or cancel a workshop, 1:1 tuition or tutorial at any time. Should this be necessary, you will be offered the choice of accepting the alteration, agreeing to a different date (if cancelled), or withdrawing from the contract and accepting a refund of all monies paid to us. For the avoidance of doubt, as we are not party to any travel (eg, flight, train, hire car) or accommodation bookings you may have made yourself, and have received no payment for the same, we will not refund the costs of these.
5. The weather is out of our control. For workshops on location, in poor weather every effort will be made to find a suitable location to continue the workshop or to take a break until the poor weather passes. If very poor weather is forecast in advance we reserve the right to contact the clients and reschedule the workshop. If this happens you will have the chance to accept the rescheduled date or accept a credit towards a future workshop of your choice to the value of the cancelled workshop.
6. Flexibility is needed when travelling to potential photographic locations, eg, as a result of changing weather. For this reason the outline itinerary for on-location shoots must be taken as an indication of what may take place, and not as a contractual obligation on the part of Mark Helliwell Photography.
7. We do not accept liability for any loss or additional expense caused by delay or interruption to travel services through weather conditions, civil disturbance, industrial action, strikes, wars, floods or sickness. Such losses or additional expenses are the responsibility of the client. We will not accept liability for loss or damage to any of your personal belongings, including but not limited to camera and computer equipment, peripherals, mobile phones, baggage, clothing, documents, monies, credit cards and so on.
8. We do not accept responsibility of liability for death, bodily injury or illness caused to the client, unless arising from the negligent act of us.
9. By making a booking, you are agreeing to accept all of the above conditions.
